Fallout 4 is an RPG that gives you a number of different paths to choose to get to the ending. Depending on which faction you fall under and the way you play out the game, your ending will be different!
There are four different endings for Fallout 4. But what is the ultimate Fallout 4 best ending out there?
It’s a little more complicated than you think. Keep reading to find out more.
The Factions of Fallout 4
Since you’re reading this guide, we’re going to assume you already know the gist of the Fallout game franchise. It’s the end of the world as we know it and you have to find a way to survive while playing out a storyline related to your character who is usually the center of some kind of evil scheme or conspiracy.
Fallout 4 takes place in Boston, MA and the surrounding areas. And at this point in the future, there are four main factions that your character can fall in line with.
First, you’ve got the Minutemen. They’re the first faction you meet in the game when you rescue Preston Garvey from a raider attack. The main core of the Minutemen’s creed is that the Commonwealth belongs to the people, not to the raiders who have taken over.
The Institute is another faction. At the start of the game, they’re a sort of boogeyman hiding in the shadows. All you know about the Institute for most of the game is that they create artificial humans called synths that are sophisticated enough to pass as real people.
The people of the Commonwealth largely fear the Institute because of the rumor that they replace people with synths overnight and that they’re spying on them.
There’s another group established in secret in the Commonwealth called The Railroad. These are folks that believe that the synths that the Institute are creating have sentience and should be treated as real people. They try to free synths from the Institute’s secret lab and give them identities to set them free.
Lastly, and a latecomer to the Commonwealth playing field is the Brotherhood of Steel. The Brotherhood is a staple in Fallout lore. They’re a group of highly armed men and women who aim to protect the people, even from themselves.
This faction of the Brotherhood is a little different than the rest. Led by Elder Maxon, the Brotherhood of Steel seeks to find and remove all-powerful technology from the hands of the people. They believe that this will bring safety to all.
What Matters to You?
So, what’s the ultimate Fallout 4 best ending? At the end of the day, that all depends on how you feel about the groups.
Do you think that all sides should stop fighting and learn to live together? Then the Minutemen might be for you.
Do you think synths are people? The Railroad ending is the best fit for you, then.
If you believe that the march of science should stop for no man (or synth), then you’ll align best with the Institute and should follow their storyline.
If you think people can’t be trusted with advanced technology, join forces with the Brotherhood of Steel and put a stop to the madness that way.
The glory of Fallout 4 is that you get to decide where your morals and beliefs align with the story and play out the ending that feels right to you. Each end has different consequences, so make sure you consider your options wisely.
Now we’re going to talk about how to get the Fallout 4 best ending for you. We’ll try to go light on the spoilers!
Power to the People!
The first ending we’re going to talk about is the Minutemen ending. This is probably the most people-friendly ending you can choose. The Minutemen aren’t trying to move forward their agenda, they’re just trying to make sure that the Commonwealth is safe and that people can create homes here again.
If you want to achieve the Minutemen ending, you’ll need to follow the prompts given to you by Preston Garvey. This means you’ll be helping to save and create a lot of settlements around the Commonwealth.
Once you have created 8 settlements, Preston will tell you that it’s time to wipe out The Brotherhood of Steel. Once that goal is accomplished, you’ll have to take down The Institute next.
The Railroad doesn’t seem to mind the Minutemen, so you’ll still be able to go through with all of their quests if you choose this ending.
Ultimately, this is the most neutral ending you can choose.
Synth Lives Matter!
If you believe that synths are people too, then you’ll want to side with the Railroad. You’ll have to follow the Freedom Trail in order to get to The Railroad, and once you convince them that you’re a friend and not an Institute spy, you’ll be able to pick up their quests and advance their plot line.
Siding with The Railroad means that The Institute and The Brotherhood of Steel are your enemies. You’ll have to destroy the Brotherhood’s airship and get in good with The Institute so you can find out how they operate and help one last batch of synths escape before you blow it up for good.
Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely!
If you think humans shouldn’t be trusted with technology (which is a fair argument to make, it’s how the end of the world came about after all) then you’ll want to side with The Brotherhood.
They want to ensure that the human race is “pure” which means that ghouls, super mutants, and synths aren’t friends to them. When you side with them, you’ll have to eliminate The Railroad first and then go after The Institute.
Oddly enough for a group that believes that technology is the root of all evil, The Brotherhood relies on incredibly powerful technology to get these jobs done. There’s an Iron Giant-like robot in the end and everything!
When you choose the Brotherhood of Steel ending, there are a number of hard choices you’ll have to make. That includes a difficult choice about a beloved Brotherhood companion you can travel with throughout the game!
For Science!
While most of the Commonwealth believes that the Institute is evil, eventually your character comes to learn that it’s actually something much different. Sure, the Institute does replace people with synths, but they do it all in the name of science!
The Institute winds up being a sophisticated group of scientists who have created a clean, spacious, and cohesive way of life underground. They’re attempting to rebuild humanity back to where it once was.
If you want to side with the Institue, you’ll have to complete all the quests that Father gives you, meaning that you’ll have to take up arms against The Railroad and the Brotherhood of Steel.
Which Fallout 4 Best Ending Will You Pick?
Choose your faction carefully! As we mentioned, there are consequences for each decision, and even settling on the Minutemen will pit some people against you. No matter what Fallout 4 best ending you pick for yourself, there will be hard choices to make.
