Fallout 4’s in-game console is the key to the entire game. You can’t leave the bunker without it.
We almost never use the tilde key (~) in any other part of our life. But when a new Fallout game comes down the pipeline, we warm up our pinky fingers just to hammer that bad boy as quickly as possible.
We need it for simple commands as well as all the cheat codes that make the game fun. Sometimes you just want to play a big, fun game instead of one of the indies.
Forget the haters, and get your flashcards ready. It is time to start memorizing cheat codes.
We are going to give you all the Fallout 4 console commands and cheat codes your little post-apocalyptic heart desires. Read on, and arm yourself with the knowledge you need to rebuild society.
Fallout 4 Console Commands You Won’t Be Able to Live Without
Console commands and cheats change the game. Whenever you input a command, you see the effect it has on the game.
You also know it is true metaphorically. Fallout 4 is a different game when you have the console commands at your disposal. You gain more power than you ever thought possible.
There is a downside to these commands, though. The risk is that you break the game.
That is, if you use some of these commands, you may lose your progress.
You can get around this problem. All you have to do is create a save file of the progress you can’t afford to lose.
That way, you will have something to fall back on if the commands do not work out for you.
That is about enough warning. It is time to get into the good stuff. Here are the Fallout 4 console commands and cheats we can’t live without.
One Quick Note
This is not a warning, just a point of clarification. You will need it if you are going to use these commands effectively.
You do not need to type brackets when entering these commands into the console. Now, onto the commands themselves.
Life and Death Console Commands
Obviously, god mode is going to top this list. We also wanted to include commands in this section that all you to have godlike qualities.
Every command allows you to play God in one way or another. These are just the commands with most all-encompassing power.
tgm: There it is. God mode. You are invulnerable now.
tai: This turns off the AI in the game. When you use this command, all other characters become immobile and adopt blank expressions.
tcai: This turns off the game’s combat AI, for when you just want some peace and quiet.
killall: This kills everyone in your surrounding area. The only exceptions are Companions and a few other important characters. They will still get hurt, writhing on the ground in need of a stimpak.
kill [insert ID]: This is a targeted kill command. Only the ID of the creature you target is eliminated.
resurrect [insert ID]: You guessed it. This is how you bring a creature back to life. If you resurrect a dead NPC (that’s non-player character for you noobs), they will retain their previous attributes.
Console Commands for Other Characters
There is some similarity here to our “life and death” section since some of those commands had to do with other characters too. The difference to us is that these commands are just for ascertaining information or slyly manipulating other creatures.
The previous commands involved drastic changes, like giving and taking life.
Here are the commands to use when you want to know more about another character in the game, plus the commands for changing their attributes.
recycleactor: You can reset any character with this command.
setscale [number from 1 to 10]: This is the “Honey, I Shrunk, or Rather, Blew Up the Kids” mod. You can make yourself or your target gigantic.
getav CA_affinity: Use this command to ascertain the affinity level of your current companion.
setav CA_affinity [number]: You can actually change your companion’s affinity level with this command.
modav CA_affinity [number]: This command adds a number to your companion’s affinity level. It’s hard to tell within the game how this is different from the previous command.
unequipall: Use this command to strip the selected NPC of all the items in their possession.
Console Commands for Bending Reality to Your Will
These commands don’t affect other characters in the same way as some of the above commands. Instead, they apply to the natural laws of the environment.
We are talking about bending time and space. It is still fun stuff. It is just not the same thing as ending another character’s life, even if they are just AI.
You can make that AI speed up, though. These commands will show you how.
tcl: This turns off the collision with objects. You can walk through walls or any other solid object. You might as well call this ghost mode.
tfc: Activate the flycam with this command. This is very helpful for capturing aerial screenshots.
tfc 1: The is a variation of the command above. The main difference is that it freezes all animations. This makes screenshots even easier to capture.
tm: This is the menu-toggle command. You can turn menus and the user interface off and on again. It also prevents you from seeing the console, so you’ll have to press tilde and type the command again to see the UI again.
set timescale to [insert number]: This command gives you the power to speed up or slow down time. The game’s default timescale is 16. Real-time is 1, negative numbers slow time down, and numbers in the thousands offer a mind-boggling speed through the game.
tdetect: AI can no longer detect you with this command. You can become a master pickpocket.
csb: Use this command to reset blood and damage effects.
fov [first-person FOV] [third-person FOV]: Pretty straightforward here. Switch between first- and third-person FOVs using this command.
Console Commands for Attributes
It is all well and good to be able to change the world when you’re in control. Let us show you how to change your own attributes with the following commands.
setgs fJumpHeightMin [insert number]: Use this command to modify your jump height. Higher numbers equal higher jumps. Remember, high jumps will still inflict enough fall damage to kill you, so it is best to enable god mode before using this command.
player.setav speedmult [insert number]: Instead of the game’s speed, this command adds a multiplier to your running speed.
player.forceav carryweight [insert number]: This command increases your carry weight, so you can lug heavy loads without feeling any heavier.
player.modav [skill] [number]: You can boost any skill with this command, though it will not unlock perks.
player.setav [character variable] [number]: This command will unlock perks when you change the stats. You use it to change character traits.
player.setlevel [insert number]: Change your level.
sexchange: Yep, it is self-explanatory. This command gives your character or whomever you select a sex change. Be forewarned, though, with the change comes a revert to the default character, which means you lose face and hair customizations.
showlooksmenu player 1: If you want to repeat customizations, or make them for the first time, this command opens the customization menu.
player.setrace [race id]: Change your race from a mutant to a ghoul and back again. You can find race IDs with the help function, which we will show you later.
player.resethealth: A command for resetting your health.
Commands to Get Things
These commands are all about accumulating stuff.
player.additem [insert item ID] [insert number]: Use this command formula to add items to your inventory. It works for any item, as long as you know the item ID.
coc qasmoke: This command teleports you to a surreal, foggy room with boxes that contain all items in the game. It is a helpful place to figure out item IDs for commands.
coc [cell id]: Teleport yourself anywhere with this command.
Faction-Changing Commands
This is another series of straightforward commands. They all apply only to the creation, destruction, or rearrangement of factions.
player.AddToFaction [faction ID] [0 or 1]: This allies you with a faction. If you remove the “player” prefix, it affects the targeted NPC. 0 is friendly, and 1 is allied.
player.RemoveFromFaction [faction ID]: Remove yourself or a targeted NPC from a faction with this command.
removefromallfactions: This command removes the target from all factions.
setally [faction id] [faction id] [0 or 1] [0 or 1]: You can make two factions friendly or allied with this command.
setenemy [faction id] [faction id] [0 or 1] [0 or 1]: The flip side of the previous command. Make two factions neutral or enemies, which are “0” and “1,” respectively.
General Game Commands
This is our section for stragglers. Most of these commands relate to completing objectives and quests, and the very last one is a catch-all.
completeallobjectives [Quest ID]: This completes all current objectives in the selected quest.
resetquest [Quest ID]: Reset the quest.
completequest [Quest ID]: Complete the quest.
caqs: Use this command to complete every step of the primary quest. You are basically completing the game with this command, so don’t use it unless you don’t mind spoilers. Don’t you want something to look forward to?
help [item name] [0-4]: This is the catch-all help command. It searches items, characters, and even other commands.
