Red Dead Redemption 2 Elk Guide

The Elk in Red Dead Redemption 2 is an incredibly large mammal that has many useful drops and crafting recipes. While it is a herbivore, it is still dangerous and should be hunted cautiously. There is also a legendary version of this animal, meaning that it is possible to come across one if you are lucky.

Best Weapons to Kill the Elk With

As with many other large mammals such as the cow, a powerful weapon should be used as to kill it quickly and effectively. To kill the elk we recommend you use either the sniper rifle or the bow. If you use the sniper, make sure not to use explosive ammo as it will ruin the kill. Similarly, you should use improved arrows when using the bow. If you are hunting the elk, make sure to use herbivore bait, as it will help to attract one.

Elk Locations

Elk are most prominent in mountainous areas, especially where there is forest. The best place to find elk is in the mountains of Ambarino by Cumberland. They can also be found in West Elizabeth and by Annesburg.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Boar Guide

The Boar is a large mammal in Red Dead Redemption 2. It is omnivorous and can be very dangerous to hunt due to its aggression. However, it is very rewarding to kill due to its hides and its meat which can be sold at a fair price. The boar also is one of the animals with the most crafting recipes, and has a legendary version as well.

Best Weapons to Kill the Boar With

Due to the boar’s immense strength it is important to use the right weapon as to not take damage, but also to get a perfect kill. For this, we recommend the sniper rifle due to its power and range. Any ammo can be used except for explosive ammo, which will ruin the kill. If you plan on hunting this animal, we recommend using both predator and herbivore bait to attract it.

Boar Locations

Boars often spawn in groups in marshy locations. To have the best shot at finding them , we recommend you go near the rivers of LeMoyne.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Cow Guide

The cow is a large yet passive mammal in Red Dead Redemption 2 which has many uses. The hides of the animal are used in the crafting of many different pieces of clothing. They are herbivores so they are not that dangerous to kill, but they can take a while as they are large.

Best Weapon to Kill the Cow With

Due to the cow being such a large animal and the importance of getting a perfect pelt when killing it, it is important to use the correct weapon. The best two weapons to use are the bow or the sniper rifle with nonexplosive ammo. However, it is better to use the bow as you do not alert people in the area, whereas the sniper can be heard from a long way aways. We also recommend that you go at night for this reason. You do not want to be caught stealing an animal.

Cow Locations

Cows are found at the many different ranches and farms across the map, most notably Emerald Ranch.

red dead redemption 2 fishing

A Healthy Catch: Read Dead Redemption 2 Fishing Tips

Nothing quite beats the satisfaction of pulling in a huge catch at the end of a fishing trip. Unless you’re not the outdoorsy type. Fortunately for you Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2 allows you to have the whole experience without all the mess.

Like many things in Red Dead, the fishing and hunting are incredibly in depth so many rules that apply to real life fishing applies here. Things like time of day you choose to fish, the bait you use, what water you choose to fish in all matter. To help you in all your fishing endeavors, here is everything you need to know about Red Dead Redemption 2 fishing!

1. Fishing Walkthrough

Before you begin fishing, it helps for you to know how the controls work. It works the same way that a lot of fishing mini-games in video games do but with a few more things that you should keep in mind like your bait type.

You have the option of choosing a bobber or lure. If you pick a bobber it’s a matter of casting your line out and waiting. You can reel a little bit but if you do it too much you’ll scare away potential catches.

If you choose lure you’ll have to continue reeling until you feel a bite. Once you’ve chosen which one you want to use, use LT/L2 to grip the rod and then RT/R2 to cast your line into the water. When you want to reel in your line a little, you’ll tap RT/R2.

Grabbing Your Materials

After doing this for a while you’ll eventually run out of materials. You can pick up more in Lagras at the bait and tackle shop. It has everything you need from live worms to crayfish.

2. What You Should Use as Bait

We mentioned bait above but now we’re going to get into a little bit more detail. You shouldn’t pick some bait and slap it on your line. Much like real life, you have to put a little thought into the bait you use.

Food items like bread, cheese, and cornbread will all do the trick for smaller fish. Worms and crickets will help you catch any medium-sized fish. If you want to reel in the biggest of fish that are found in the deep parts of rivers and lakes the only bobber that will work is a crayfish.

Lures will help you catch larger fish than bobbers will unless you use a river lure. River lures only let you catch small and medium-sized fish. If you want to catch a large lake fish then the lake lure will work. Swamp lures will help you get the medium and large-sized fish found in the swamps.

If you want to start catching legendary fish you’ll need the special versions of these lures but we’ll get into that a little later.

3. Fantastic Fish and How to Catch Them

There is no end to the variety of fish that you can catch in Red Dead 2. Here are a few of them and the best bait to use to reel them in.

  • Chain pickerel- corn
  • Bluegill- cheese
  • Redfin pickerel- bread
  • Smallmouth bass- any of the natural baits
  • Largemouth bass- crayfish
  • Rock bass- cheese or any of the natural baits
  • Perch- bread
  • Bullhead catfish- corn or cheese
  • Lake sturgeon- lake lure
  • Steelhead trout- worms
  • Sockeye salmon- river lure
  • Muskie- lake lure

Keep in mind that you can use any bait and still maybe catch some these. These are the baits that are proven to be the most effective in correlation to the fish.

Best Time of the Day to Fish

Like in real life, the time of day will affect what you’re able to catch. The morning and afternoon are when you’ll have the most success with it because again, like in real life this is when the most bugs are around.

You should also try your luck with fishing when it’s raining because the fish will mistake the drops on the water’s surface for bugs.

4. Places and Conditions

Each one of the fish above is found in different bodies of water. The time of day and weather conditions are also a factor in catching them.

Chain Pickerel

You can find the chain pickerel in most bodies of water in the game so they’re fairly common. You’ll have the most success with them if you’re trying to catch them in bright, sunny weather.

You won’t have any luck finding Bluegills in the swamps but you’ll be able to catch them in most of the rivers and lakes in the game. The best time to catch them is when it’s raining.

Redfin Pickrel

Redfin pickerel prefer warm and sunny weather like the chain pickerel. You’ll only be able to find them in the southern rivers.

Smallmouth Bass

You’ll be able to find smallmouth bass in all of the northern rivers. They are more active during rainy days than sunny.

Largemouth Bass

Largemouth bass is also more active in rainy weather. Unlike the smallmouth bass, you’ll mostly find them in the south.

These are only a few examples, you can go find a guide for the rest. Now on to what you want to catch. The legendary fish.

5. Be a Legend by Catching the Legends

To find the legendary fish you’ll need the map that tells you where they are. For that, you’ll go to Gill’s Landing to pick up the quest from an NPC named… well, Gill. There are thirteen fish that you’ll have to hunt down in all.

As we said above, you’ll need to get the special lures in order to catch them. You want to make your reeling time as short as possible so it’s best to not attempt to catch them until they are fairly close to shore.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Fishing Tips That Will Help You Reel the Biggest Catch of the Day

Red Dead Redemption 2 fishing is probably the closest you can come to the sport without actually doing it. It’s fairly in depth down to you having to consider the time of day and weather conditions before you go fishing. Use these tips to make the most legendary catches.

If you’re a perfectionist or an achievement/trophy hunter you’re going to want to do everything in Red Dead 2. Here are a few tips that will help you do that.

red dead redemption 2 easter eggs

Hidden in the Deep West: Red Dead Redemption 2 Easter Eggs

Cowboys and … Angels? Not in this game. You’re more likely to find cowboys and vampires or serial killers. Yup – these Red Dead Redemption 2 easter eggs will leave you sleeping with your nightlight on for a few days.

Why the game is so obsessed with the macabre, we don’t know. But we do know where these eggs are – you can learn about them below.

1. The Cult Note

In the land of Emerald Ranch and the Heartland Overflow, there’s a small cabin. It’s not any abandoned cabin – it seems to be the headquarters of what was a once a cult.

If you look around you can find a note and signs that point to everyone drinking the kool-aid, aka, a mass suicide. The note has a strange sermon on it and you can pick it up and keep it.

If this didn’t creep you out too much, follow the instructions on the note. It’ll tell you to come back “at the second hour under the half moon”. If you choose to do that, then look to the skies.

You’ll find something glowing and otherworldly there.

2. The Ghost Train and the Vampire

Since we’re talking about creepy stuff, let’s talk about two more otherworldly things.

You can find the ghost train riding alongside you riding on the tracks between Lemoyne and New Hanover. Sometimes it’s there – sometimes it’s not.

The vampire, on the other hand, doesn’t hang out by the railroad tracks. For that, you’ll have to head to Saint-Denis (not the one in Paris). After you collect clues from graffiti around town, an x will mark the spot.

Come back at night and you can meet the not-so-glamorous vampire. This one is out of a horror movie – not those Twilight films.

3. Burned Bodies

Okay, so maybe we aren’t done with the creepy stuff. It seems the easter eggs in this game are full of it.

In Roanoke Valley, you’ll find the Meteor house – or a house with a big hole in the roof. On the inside, you’ll find burning and still-smoking bodies.

You may not want to stay around there much longer. Who knows when the next hot space rock will fall from the sky?

4. Hobbit Holes – Oh My!

Are you a fan of Lord of the Rings? Well, then you’re in luck. If you head east to the North East side of Bacchus Station you’ll find a round-shaped home built right into the ground.

This hobbit hole seems to have no reason to be there – no one’s ever seen any inhabitants or have any reason to believe they exist inside the game.

However, it’s a cool find and worth seeking out if you’re in that area.

5. A Damsel in . . . The Outhouse?

Maybe we’ll say that the majority of this game’s easter eggs are creepy. There’s nothing creepier than thinking you’re going to go empty your bladder and finding the outhouse chained shut.

Not chained shut – but chained shut to keep someone inside. In this case, a woman. She’ll ask you for help and it’s up to you if you let her out.

Some gamers go straight past her and loot the nearby ranch – but if you go back to play the knight in shining armor … don’t stick around.

We don’t know the exact reason but it does seem like whoever locked her in there wasn’t doing it for kicks.

You’ll find her around the back of the house at Braithwaite Manor.

6. Let’s Play a Game

No – thankfully it’s not the doll from Saw that you’ll play with. But you can make some serious cash in a dark and crumbly setting.

Head to Window Rock, near North Valentine to see a painting. When you’ve considered this work of art (or stolen it), go to Bacchus and find a cave. The cave is full of weird statues – which you’ll need to organize.

Why? We don’t know. But if you do put them in the right order you can make three gold bars – so it’s a pretty good activity when you’re low on cash.

7. White Walkers?

If you don’t think statues in a cave are creepy, then you obviously haven’t seen the angels episode of Dr. Who. But we return to the creepy obsession with this next Easter egg.

If you’re hanging out in Saint-Denis. in the swamps, you can find a man hanging lifelessly from a tree. If you approach him to – you know- give him a proper burial, ghost things attack you and try to kill you.

So maybe you want to look at this one from afar. Unless you’re up for a fight.

8. A Mutant for the Books

Have you heard about the Nazi doctor that liked to do unthinkable experiments on people at camps?

Well thankfully this experiment wasn’t on human beings – but it did seem to be on lots of different animals. If you head to the Van Horn Trading Post and go west, you’ll find a small cabin.

Go up to the second floor and you’ll see a mutant strapped to the wall – Frankenstein style. It’s your job to figure out how all those animals got stitched or bred together.

Good luck with that.

9. A Witches Cauldron

Are you hoofing it up north by the Grizzlies? If so, you can find a witches cauldron full of grey-green liquid. Obviously, you shouldn’t drink unknown potions, but some players have.

If you choose to indulge, you’ll black up and wake up, seeming to have teleported.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Easter Eggs

Were those enough creepy crawly easter eggs for you? You could even say they were rotten eggs – not Red Dead Redemption 2 easter eggs.

However you feel about them, they’re there for you to explore – so get to hiking.

Make sure you don’t do it all right before bed or you might have some haunted dreams.

How to Locate, Kill, and Skin the Legendary Alligator in Red Dead Redemption 2

The Legendary Alligator, also known as the Bull Gator, is one of the fiercest animals in rdr 2. It is much more fearsome than the regular alligator, and when killed, drops items worth picking up and using, crafting with, or selling. However, tackling this animal is no walk in the park. Before finding and attempting to kill this beast, you should know everything from its location to what to craft with it.

How does the Bull Gator Act

Before finding the legendary alligator, it is important to remember how it will act around you, and to keep that in mind when hunting it. The Bull Gator is both incredibly dangerous and aggressive. Because of this, it is one of the most dangerous animals to hunt. However, you can stay safe from its jaws by staying at a distance. The gator is rather slow, meaning that if you stay far enough away, it will be difficult for it to get to you. If you do get too close to the gator, it can easily get you into its teeth when it attacks, which lead to your death. Basically, when hunting it, you want to stay as far away as possible.

Bull Gator Location

The legendary alligator is located in LeMoyne under Lagras in the Lakay, which is a swamp. It is important to remember that it will only spawn in that one location and if you are looking for it.

Best Weapons To Kill The Bull Gator With

When killing any legendary animal, it is important to use you most powerful weapon, due to legendary animals only dropping perfect/legendary pelts. While it is possible to kill the alligator with any weapon, you should definitely use either the carbine or the shotgun with slugs. Both of these have their pros and cons when hunting the gator.

Shotgun – The shotgun is one of the most powerful weapons when used properly. While it will take the least amount of shots to kill any animal, it must be used at a close range, leaving you more susceptible to being attacked by the animal. You should always use slugs when hunting legendary animals with the shotgun.

Carbine – The carbine is also an incredibly powerful weapon, but unlike the shotgun, it works at longer ranges. The carbine does not do as much damage as the shotgun though, so more shots will have to be taken to kill the animal.

Between the two guns, the shotgun is the better choice, but only by a little bit due to it requiring you to be much closer.

How To Kill The Legendary Alligator

Before tracking a legendary animal of any kind, you should always start out by knowing everything you can about the animal, such as the exact location and how it will act around you. On top of this, you should already have the gun you want to use on you, and make sure it is powerful. The process is similar for all legendary animals, so if you, for example, have already killed the legendary buck in rdr 2, then you off to a good start.

Step 1: Go to the Location

Take your horse to Lakay, which is marked on the map above. Once you arrive there, just leave your horse as it will not be necessary until after the gator is killed. If you are in the area where the legendary animal spawns, then a black box will appear in the corner of your screen.

Step 2: Move Around

Once you reach the area where the black box shows up on your screen, make sure to walk slowly in circles while moving around through the area until you find something like droppings, fur, or damage done by the animal. When this happens, a white question mark appears on your screen. This means that the animal has spawned and you can now start hunting it. If the question mark does not appear. Travel a bit away from the area and camp for a night. The next day you should be able to hunt the gator.

Step 3: Start the Hunting Sequence

Once you approach what was left behind, click both thumb sticks in to enter eagle eye mode. From here, a path should light up which you will need to follow.

Step 4: Investigate the Next Droppings

The path that eagle eye mode put you on should lead to another set of dropping or fur. Investigate it, and then reenter eagle eye mode to find the third dropping. Repeat this with the third dropping.

Step 5: Stalk and Kill

After investigating the third dropping, eagle eye mode should lead you to the legendary alligator. Once you see it, make sure you crouch and walk slowly until you get in range. Once you have killed it make sure you skin it to get everything you can from it.

What to do with New Legendary Items

Once you have the items you got from killing the alligator you can either craft with them or trade them. If you wish to trade them, the best option would be to the trapper so that you can get money from it. If you with to craft with it, simply go to the fence.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Badger Guide

The American Badger is a mid sized mammal in rdr 2. Despite having no legendary variant of the animal, it still is a useful animal to hunt for the creation of clothes. The meat can also be eaten. This guide will tell you everything you need to know about the badger.

Best Weapon to Kill the Badger With

The badger can be a difficult animal to kill perfectly due to its relatively small size and fast movement speed. Because of this, if you are looking to kill a badger, you should use the Varmint Rifle to have the best chance at a perfect kill. Make sure you use predator bait to attract the animal, as it does feed on smaller animals such as squirrels.

Badger Locations

The badger is often found in the woods near creeks or rivers. You will have the best luck finding it in in the woods of LeMoyne, by the Upper Montana River in West Elizabeth, or along the Dakota River in Ambarino.

Badger Materials

This chart shows everything that you can get from the badger, along with how much it can sell for. What you get from a badger may depend on the kill quality. For many animals, whether or not it is legendary would affect what you got as well, but there is no legendary version of the badger.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Armadillo Guide

The nine-banded armadillo is a medium sized mammal that can come to good use in red dead redemption 2. While it poses no threat, it is important to know how to properly kill it, and how to properly craft with it. This guide will tell you everything you need to know about the armadillo in rdr 2.

Best Weapon to Kill the Armadillo With

Because the armadillo has a hard shell, it is important to use the right weapon make sure you get the kill. The best weapon to use is the Varmint Rifle. While the repeater shotgun also could work, the rifle is better due to it having a longer range. We recommend you use a scope to get a more accurate shot, and to always aim for the head. We recommend you use either predator or herbivore bait as well if you decide to specifically hunt it.

Armadillo Locations

The Armadillo is located only in New Austin in the desert areas. The best place to find them is around the Town of Armadillo, especially to the North West.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Alligator Guide

The alligator can be a very scary creature to come across in rdr 2. To make it less of a threat, you should make sure you know everything about it before looking for it, or going where it could be. This guide will tell you everything you need to know about the alligator, from where to find it to how to kill it.

Best Weapons to Kill an Alligator With

It is important to use the right type of weapon when attempting to kill an alligator for two reasons: so you can easily kill it, and so you can preserve it and get a perfect pelt from it. Because of this, you want to avoid using any type of explosive ammo, while still using a powerful gun. The best two guns would be the sniper or the rifle with the regular, split point, high velocity, or express ammo because of this. While other weapons like shotguns with slugs or bows with poison arrows can be used, we recommend using the rifles for the best results.

Alligator Locations

The alligators most readily spawn in LeMoyne along the Kamassa River. They mostly spawn downstream towards the South of the map. They often will also spawn near Lagras.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Grizzly Bear Guide

Bears are fearsome creatures that can do a lot of damage, especially in Red Dead Redemption 2. Because of this, you should know everything about them, including how to deal with them, incase you come across one. Bears have to be dealt with precisely, and if so, you can get lots of money from what a bear gives you. Here is everything you have to know about bears.

Best Guns to Kill the Bear With

Because the Grizzly bear is such a large animal, it is important to use a high powered weapon to kill the bear. However, it is important to remember not to use things like explosives when killing the bear, as you will not get a perfect kill. Both a rifle or a sniper can be used, but make sure that the ammo you use is either regular, express, high velocity, or spilt point bullets. The shotgun can also be used, but you should only use the slug if you want a chance of killing the bear. Similarly, the bow can be used, but only with improved or poisoned arrows. If you plan to hunt the bear specifically, both predator bait and herbivore bait can be used to attract the bear, but for best results, use both.

Grizzly Bear Locations

Grizzly bears are common throughout West Elizabeth, mostly in the forested regions with lots of trees. They are also common up in Ambarino in Grizzly East and West. The bears are more common in the East, with the legendary ones also spawning there.

Bear Items

These are all the items you get from the bear. To get these items, you have to have to kill and skin the animal. The items you receive depend both on the type of bear and the kill quality. Some of these, especially the legendary items, can be sold to a trapper.
